The difficulty in painting a room with a fireplace in a red paint is that the fireplace is most often a red or orange brick. If the paint around the fireplace is a similar red, but just a little bit different, the red walls are very likely to clash. The red paint, in other words, must be chosen carefully so that it will match as closely as possible with the red brick.
Instructions
1. Find several swatches of the various reds at the paint store where you plan to purchase the paint. Take them home and compare them to the fireplace. Choose three or four that look similar to the color of the fireplace.
2. Purchase samples of the red paint swatches that you decided were closest in color to your fireplace. Paint samples of each color on the wall, near the fireplace. The samples should be at least 2 feet square, and should be close enough to your fireplace that you can compare the color of the brick with the paint.
3. Wait for the paint to dry to choose a color. View the red paint in all different lights and at different times of the day. The paint will very likely dry darker than the color of the fresh, wet paint.
