What Type Of Fresh paint Would You Experience Interior Stairs

Paint stairs in bright colors for a contemporary look.

Painted stairs add to the decor of a home. The process is not difficult, but it is time-consuming and creates inconvenience until the project is complete. Choosing the right paint for the project will give the best results, making all of the inconvenience worthwhile.

Paint

Making an investment in a high-quality paint ensures a better result. Good paints are generally more expensive, but the cost is worth it to get a durable, lasting surface for your stairs. Latex floor paint cures quickly and makes a suitable choice. The color of the paint you select is up to your personal preference. Choose a neutral color or brighter colors that enhance your home's decor. Before applying paint to your stairs, apply a latex primer.

Decorative Painting

You can paint your stairs a basic color, apply the urethane and be finished. Adding decorative touches to your painted stairs is an option, however. Apply stenciled phrases or decorations to the stairs to incorporate a theme. Paint stripes or geometric patterns on stairs for a contemporary look. Paint a faux runner on the stairs using a variety of paint colors to create the appearance of a carpeted runner on the stairs. A traditional look is to apply stain to the steps and paint the risers. The options are limited only by your imagination and creativity.

Protective Finish

Apply a protective finish to the stairs to ensure greater protection and durability. After the paint, including any decorative painting you have added, is dry, apply at least four coats of clear, water-based urethane. Water-based urethane maintains a clear surface over time, while oil-based varieties tend to develop a yellowish look. Water-based urethane also has a short dry time, allowing you to apply additional coats within one day.

Considerations

Painting interior stairs is a major undertaking. During the process, the stairs are unavailable for use until the paint and protective finish are applied and thoroughly dry. The upstairs of your home will basically be off limits until the job is completed. Plan ahead for the inconvenience. Even walking on the stairs in sock feet before they are dry can damage the finish.
