Cheap Country Designing

Weathered wood and other aged natural materials make inexpensive country decorating accents.

You can fully furnish a room using cheap country decorating techniques. Successful country decorating brings the relaxed environment of the farm into the comfortable space of a home. Country decorating commonly incorporates the pale colors, earth tones and natural textures of farm equipment and antique collectibles to accomplish an informal rustic look. New decorative country-themed items can be added a few at a time to the decor when you find them at a reasonable price.

Instructions

1. Compile a general list of the items you want to decorate the room with a country inspired look. Estimate what you are willing to spend on each item and add the total to see if you need to revise the list or adjust the budget.

2. Measure the dimensions of the room, windows and any existing furniture and add these details to the list.

3. Review the items and collectibles you own to see if you have things that could be used as a country decoration. Framed photos of barns, fields and farming, or country textiles like quilts and handmade blankets fit well within the country theme. Incorporating pieces you already own reduces the decorations you need to purchase.

4. Visit thrift stores, flea markets and garage sales with the list. Evaluate prospective decorations and room additions based on their price, appearance and adherence to the country theme. Bargain for and selectively purchase the items that meet all the criteria and fit the dimensions of the room.

5. Clean all the decorations without restoring them and changing their rustic look. Remove all the dust and dirt from any outdoor items that have been brought inside as decoration. Country decorating is rural and homespun, not dirty.

6. Arrange the cheap and free country theme decorations around the room evenly without crowding the space. Leave large walkways and open areas in the room to create a style that is comforting but not sparse. Cover furniture pieces that appear out of place in the theme with a cotton quilt or other natural fabric to match it to the room.
