Fresh paint Minis

Dollhouses aren't just for kids anymore. Hobbyists are increasing in number, and it is becoming easier to trade or purchase pre-existing miniatures in any style. Whether you find a miniature that is almost perfect or you have one that doesn't quite fit your overall design theme, a little craftiness can make all the difference. A fresh coat of paint could transport your miniature into a different era or make those faded colors pop.

Instructions

1. Clamp a magnifying glass over your workstation. Looking though a magnifying glass will make the miniatures more visible, allowing you to work in greater detail.

2. Pick up the miniatures with your index finger and thumb on the surface not yet being painted. If the pieces are small enough, hold them with tweezers.

3. Paint the miniatures with your other hand using a fine bristled brush, between sizes 0 and 5. Lightly coat the miniature using acrylic paint. Acrylic paint dries quickly and provides the opacity that watercolors do not.

4. Lay the miniature down on a sheet of wax paper so that the least amount of painted surface touches the paper. Paint does not stick as easily to wax paper as other surfaces. Allow the paint to dry before painting the area left clean.

5. Paint two or three thin layers of acrylic paint, allowing the miniature to dry on a sheet of wax paper between coats.

6. Varnish your miniatures to seal the paint and ensure long-lasting vibrancy.
