Coordinate Stone & Siding Colors

Match or contrast your stone and siding.

The color of stone will always be primarily neutral, so this leaves you wide option in terms of how you want to match it to your siding choices. The process of selection will begin with what you can't change. From there it is all about your innate taste, and how you would like the stone and siding to fit in with the environs and the other houses in your neighborhood.

Instructions

1. List the things and colors that are already in place regarding your home and yard. If you have a stone wall or patio in place already, or if you have a strongly colored roof or masonry on the house, these are the colors you will be working with and around.

2. Take a walk around the block or down your street to see what other houses have as predominant colors in their siding and yard or patio. You may want to harmonize with the neighbors, or go bold and stand out a bit.

3. Make a list of colors for the siding or stone (or both) that you will consider. A broad list is better. Get some color swatches from the hardware store or supplier to compare. Stone colors will be in earth colors like warm beige or cool gray. You can match siding to stone by using warm colors like coffee or cooler ones like sage, or you can contrast. Bold colors like deep crimson make a striking presentation.

4. Narrow down your options comparing the swatches to the colors you have in place. Check how the colors hold up at different times of day and in different light conditions. It is best to take your time so you can be sure of your final decision.
