When you are choosing paint for a two-story great room, you need to know how you can make color work for your large space. Colors can be used to help "shrink" the space and make a two-story room seem more cozy.
Instructions
1. Consider a dark shade of paint for the ceiling, such as brown, dark blue or dark green. According to "Style At Home," it is recommended to use a darker color on the ceiling to make it seem lower, therefore making the room more cozy. The darker the color, the lower the ceiling will seem.
2. Look for a tan or medium soft gray color for the walls to give a sense of warmth. Sandy or caramel shades will also have this effect.
3. Look for another dark contrasting color to paint from the top of the walls down a foot from the ceiling. This wide stripe around the top of the room will give the illusion of lowering the ceiling. To further the illusion, use this same color in a stripe on the bottom of the walls around the entire room. This will have the effect of compacting the space.
