Fresh paint A Family Room And Living room

To paint a living room or den you need to purchase materials for painting.

Give drab walls a burst of color and transform your living room and den with a coat of paint. Buy proper painting supplies such as paint and brushes. Decide what color to paint your den or living room by picking a theme that reflects the use of the room. Prep the living room or den before you start to paint it.

Instructions

1. Choose a theme for the living room and den that reflects how the rooms are used. Create a cozy feeling by using rich, dark colors like burgundy. Pick a neutral color like taupe if you want an airy feeling in your living room or den. Use decorative painting techniques to make your living room or den look more expensive. Paint 6-inch stripes or use a sponge to produce a designer effect.

2. Purchase supplies for painting your living room or den. Pick your colors and purchase enough of the paint to complete the task. Buy paintbrushes or rollers and a paint tray. Get extra tools to prep the room before it is painted such as painter's tape, caulk and sandpaper. Find a canvas tarp that will adequately cover the floor of the living room and den.

3. Prep the living room and den for painting by caulking any holes or gaps in the walls and sanding any irregularities. Clean the walls by using a soap and water mixture. Create a solid base by using a primer on the walls before painting. Use angled brushes to apply primer around edges. Keep a damp rag on hand to clean up any mistakes while painting. Sand all surfaces for a final time to create a clean, flat working surface.

4. Cover the floors and furniture with a tarp. Make sure to remove everything from the living room and den or pull the furniture away from walls. Remove all electrical covers and plates and use painter's tape to keep it secured down. Use painter's tape to cover all areas that you wish to remain unpainted.

5. Use an angled brush to cut in a 2-inch band of paint around ceiling, molding and corners. Dampen your paint roller in water or paint thinner before using it. Immerse the roller in a paint tray that is filled with only enough paint to reach the grate. Cover the roller completely and roll it against the grate to remove any excess paint. Distribute the paint on the wall by rolling a W or M shape. Paint the wall until it is covered and let it dry. If needed, apply a second coat.

6. Finish by painting the trim with a 1-inch angled brush. Press the brush firmly to form a point and paint a straight line along the trim. Flip the brush and repeat. Let the paint dry completely, then finish the project by removing all tarps and painter's tape. Reinstall electrical outlets and covers.
