Choose Vinyl Siding Colors

Lost in a pile of vinyl siding color chips? Don't worry, you can make the right choice. Read on to learn select vinyl siding colors.

Instructions

1. Once you have decided to get new vinyl siding on your home, choosing the right color may take some time. Collecting the proper brand of samples is the first step towards making this decision. Check with your contractor or whoever is doing your siding job and get the brand name of the vinyl siding they will be using. Usually your contractor will provide you with the proper samples.

2. Spread those samples out. Sit down at the kitchen table, the floor or wherever you have a lot of room to spread out. If you are making this decision with someone, sit down together for this project. Right away, pick out the colors you do not want. If bright red or pure white are a definite "No", take those samples out of the running immediately. Usually, the samples detach from the booklet of samples, so take those ones you definitely do not want out of your sight. This will help narrow down the colors and keep you from feeling overwhelmed. (If the sample colors do not remove from the booklet, take a black marker and color over the unwanted samples).

3. Hopefully, you already have a certain look you are wanting for your home; if your house is modern or old fashioned, if you want cool colors or warm colors. This is a good starting point for picking out your vinyl siding color. If you have no clue, try narrowing it down by your favorite colors or, at the very least, the colors that don't match your next door neighbor. Try to narrow your choices down to three or four colors. Choosing neutral tones of beige and creams is a classy and fool-proof choice.

4. Once you have your top three or four colors picked, you have to begin to really study these colors. You absolutely must take those color samples outside. After all, the vinyl siding goes on the outside of your house, not under the lighting inside. Get outside and view these samples in the natural light. Look at them at different times of the day too. See how the color looks in the morning, midday, afternoon and evening. You will be surprised at how differently certain colors look in different types of lighting. Usually looking at these color samples in the outdoors helps narrow your choices down even further. There are some colors that you can tell immediately are not for you. For the ones that are still in the running, have someone help you by holding up the color against the side of your house while you stand back to view it. Visualizing the entire house in that color is helpful, but is not a guarantee. If you are still having trouble taking choices out, think about why you chose the colors you did. Blue might be your favorite color, but it may not be the greatest color for your vinyl siding. Gray might hide dirt better than white, but if you don't love it, don't choose it.

5. Another thing to consider while making the color choice for your vinyl siding, is the fixtures and other accessories on the outside of your home. Do you have brass doorknobs, lights and other fixtures? Silver toned or copper? Are you planning on changing these fixtures to match your new siding? Keep in mind these additional pieces for your home so that everything from your mailbox to your doorknob looks like they belong together.

6. Finally, you have to choose the color you feel best about. Gathering the opinions of others may be insightful, but in the end you know what is best for your home. After you have considered your top color choices, viewed them in every possible outdoor lighting and picked what you believe is best for your home, your choice has been made.
