A new color can totally transform a drab room.
Decorating your bedroom in a beach cottage theme is an ideal way to transport you to the shore each day, no matter how near or far the ocean is away. A beach theme is casual, airy and comfortable. One essential element in capturing the mood of a beach cottage is your choice of color.
White
A neutral color like white makes an excellent choice for wall color, fabrics or window treatments in beach bedroom decor. White is bright and reflects a lot of light, keeping that open, airy feel in the room. Bright whites create a crisp, cool atmosphere. Off whites that look aged or sun bleached add a bit more warmth to the room. Use whites as a wall color, window treatment or bedding.
Tan
Tan is an excellent neutral to incorporate in any room because it goes with every other color. In a beach theme bedroom, it is reminiscent of sand, reeds, dried grasses, driftwood and other natural materials that you might encounter on a day at the beach. Tan also helps warm up other cool beach shades like bright whites and blues. Use tans for floor coverings, walls and incorporate it in fabric or bedding. You can also add some splashes of tan with natural materials like wicker furnishings or woven grass shades.
Blue
Probably the most dominant beach color, blue is pulled right from the sky and the ocean. No beach themed room is complete without some touches of blue. Lighter shades like sky blue, or medium shades like cerulean and cobalt, work well in a beach theme. If you prefer a more nautical look, add a bit of navy blue. Aquamarine brings in a hint of green. For a bolder color scheme, incorporate blues in the background, such as in wall paint and carpeting. If you prefer neutrals as the dominant colors of your room, add some punches of blue here and there with the accessories or fabric patterns.
Green
Another cool color is green. A bedroom beach theme can use green or a blue-green hue as a dominant color or as an accent color. Shades of blue and green together create an analogous color scheme, which is very relaxing to the eye. The hues should be of about the same intensity. One single green wall, for example, makes a lovely accent color with the rest of the room in neutrals, and blue artwork and accessories will work in harmony with it.
Coral
Coral, found in the coral beds as well as the spectacular sunset, is created by blending mainly orange and red or pink, in varying amounts to produce a range of colors. For a softer look, seek pale shades of pinkish-orange. Deeper shades can be an intense reddish orange . To bring a bit more neutrality, dark corals are a bit more on the tan side. As opposed to blue and green, coral is a warm color. Coral with blue-green shades like aquamarine and teal create a complementary color scheme that gives a room balance. Using coral as a dominant color can give a beach bedroom a more feminine feel.
