Fresh paint An Area Brown

Painting your walls brown gives you a chance to experiment with a new color scheme.

If you are looking for a way to add a touch of warmth and class to your room, consider painting it a rich brown color. The warmth of the color can give off a relaxing feeling that invites you to slow down and relax. Brown is such a dark color, though, that it can be easy to botch the paint project, so remember to use care when you decide to paint your walls with any shade of brown.

Instructions

1. Wipe down your walls with a cloth dipped in warm water and dish detergent. Any dirt or filth on the walls can interfere with the painting process, so ensure you remove it all.

2. Block off any windows or trim that you would not like to see painted with painter's tape. The tape will create a straight, clean edge when you paint.

3. Pry off the lid of your wall primer can with a screwdriver. Insert a stirring stick into the primer deep enough to reach all the way to the bottom of the can. Drag the stir stick around in wide circles until all the primer mixes into a single color and consistent texture.

4. Pour your primer into a clean paint tray. Dip your paint roller into the paint tray. Run it back and forth until you have a thin, even coating all around the surface of the paint roller.

5. Hold your paint roller at an angle to ensure that none of the primer will drizzle off and fall to the floor. Press the roller to the wall and move it either up or down. Do not move it from side to side.

6. Paint the walls with primer until you have them completely covered. The purpose of the primer is to block out the color of the old paint so that it does not interrupt the color of the brown paint, so apply as many coats as you need to completely obscure the previous paint color. Leave the coats of primer to dry before you attempt to apply any brown paint.

7. Roll over any drips that leak from the roller. It will flatten them out so that they do not add an unpleasant texture to your walls.

8. Open and mix the can of brown paint the same way you did with the primer.

9. Dip a small brush into the paint and dab it onto an obscure part of your wall. Allow it to dry, and determine if you mixed it well enough and if it is the correct color to suit your needs.

10. Pour the brown paint into a clean paint tray, and dip a clean paint roller into it. Roll the paint roller around until it has an even coating of paint on all sides.

11. Apply the paint to the wall, starting at the top and moving down. Roll over any drips that run down the walls from your paint roller.

12. Wait for the first layer of brown paint to dry. Brown is a dark color, but some of the white primer might still show through the first layer, so be prepared to apply another coat of paint in order to achieve an even coat of color.
