Obtain A Stain Off Vinyl Siding

Vinyl siding is easy to maintain and holds color well. With a good washing once a year, it looks as good as new. But sometimes rust, green copper stains, tar, mold and other stains can discolor your vinyl siding. There are many products that can get stains off vinyl siding, but sometimes you have to try more than one. Here are a variety of ideas to try.

Instructions

1. Mix 6 gallons of water and 1/3 cup of laundry detergent in a water sprayer. Scrub the stains with this solution and a soft-bristled brush.

2. Remove stains from vinyl siding with an all purpose cleaner such as Damp Rid House Wash, available at ACE Hardware Stores. Apply it to the siding with a power washer on a low spray or medium mist setting. Use the sprayer horizontally so water doesn't get behind the siding. Let the cleaner set for 10 minutes, then rinse.

3. Combine dish soap and baking soda to form a paste. Apply the paste to the stains and gently rub them with a soft rag.

4. Use Clorox Stain Out or a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to remove stains. Wet the magic eraser. Squeeze out the excess water and rub the stain with the eraser until it's gone.

5. Apply diluted oxygen bleach to mold and mildew stains. Rub the stains with a soft, damp rag.

6. Spray on Lime-Away or CLR cleaner to remove calcium, lime and rust stains. If this doesn't remove all your stains, try Rust Aid, available at Home Depot.

7. Apply PVC primer with a soft cloth to remove stains. Vinyl siding is made of Polyvinyl Chloride, the same thing PVC pipe is made of.

8. Clean stains on vinyl siding with undiluted orange oil based cleaner. Use Soft Scrub to remove tar or tree sap. Rub the stains gently with a soft cloth.

9. Remove green copper stains with a mixture of 3/4 lb. of oxalic acid granules and 1 gallon of hot water. Put on rubber gloves. Dip a sponge into the solution and put it on the stains. Let it set for 5 minutes, then scrub the spots with a soft sponge. Repeat if necessary.

10. Use an automotive cleaner such as Spray Nine Automotive Cleaner or Armor All. Spray the cleaner on the stains and wipe them away with a soft rag.
