Powder Coated Euro MC w/sidecar
Dream up a theme for your motorcycle, and it can be painted by you or a professional. Virtually anything you can imagine can be brought to life on your bike. Your custom paint job reveals your individuality, personality and style to the world. When you customize your motorcycle, everyone knows for sure it's you riding down the road or having a drink in the local watering hole.
Choices
You can use either paint or powder coating to show off your personality on your motorcycle. There are a multitude of paint schemes---single colors, multiple colors, fades, candies, ghosts, stripes, polka dots and even airbrushed designs. Metallics such as copper, brass, gold and silver used to be done by metal plating, but now they can easily be reproduced in specialty paint and powder coating. Powder manufacturers are coming out with new colors every day, and, like paint, powder can be sanded to a smooth finish. Because powder is durable and chip resistant, it is an ideal choice for motorcycles.
Ideas
Every piece on your ride can be colorized. A dramatic one-color look is an ideal platform to showcase your bike. Whether you choose one shade or many shades of the same color, the end result is an understated elegance. Alternatively, bright traffic purple with silver ghost flames and lime lite pin-striping on a bike is going to stand up and shout. You can also create the best of both worlds---midnight blue with a hint of sublime metallic flake. In the shade, it appears black; in sunlight, the flake sparkles. Instead, you may be inspired by your favorite team to go two-tone or maybe you prefer a multi-colored finish such as camouflage. The nice thing about a custom bike is that you may start out with one idea that evolves into others as your paint job progresses. Your vision and your budget are the only things stopping you.
One Step Further
Once the base coat has been applied, it's time to add further design if you wish. Most designs are applied with an airbrush but can also be added with sublimation and transfers. Even a beginner can paint flames with a pattern and a basic airbrush kit. Anything that can be airbrushed with paint can also be airbrushed in powder for increased durability. To airbrush with powder, add MEK solvent to liquidize powder. After application, allow it dry long enough for the MEK to fully dry and outgas before placing in the curing oven. If you are lucky enough to be artistic or can hire an artist, you can attain more intricate themes. While skulls and flames are popular, you can delve into your personality for creative ideas. Mine your interests for originality---show off your unusual hobbies, a beloved pet, a favorite place, love of hunting or patriotism. Accessorize with many available add-on items available from your favorite bike shop or online catalog companies.
