Interior Room Fresh paint Colors

Colors can say something about your personality in the way that you use them for decoration.

The colors you choose to decorate the interior of your home can say a lot about you or your state of mind. Bold colors indicate a personality willing to challenge conventional thinking. Neutral colors are preferred by those who seek a steady state of consciousness unburdened by the need to shock. Since interior paint colors can become a statement about your psyche, pay attention to the coloring you choose.

Harmony

Harmony is achieved when you use paint colors that are the same shade or hue. Happiness seems to exude from a room painted with vivid shades of yellow. While flat yellow can become overpowering, using effects like sponging or ragging gives the yellow a textural dimension that provides warmth and harmony throughout the room.

Patterns

Patterning paint colors on the wall can double the effect of change. Place patterns with stencils or rubber stamps. Smaller rooms can handle all four walls painted in a busy pattern whereas patterns in a larger room may be a bit too much. An interesting challenge is to separate the walls with chair railing, and paint a very busy pattern above the railing and a muted pattern like plaid below the railing. Use colors that are more vibrant above the railing than below.

Soothing Blues

Blue is a favorite color for rooms, perhaps because of its calming effect. Blue is also chosen for its vast array of shades and differentiations of hue. The calming sensation of being surrounded by the color blue makes it an ideal choice for a family game room to stave off manic attacks over gamesmanship. Blue is also good for bedrooms, allowing the soothing comedown from the stresses of the day.

Stripes

A room with angles, like an attic office with dormer windows, can come alive with stripes. Use colors like lime green, burgundy and orange to paint wide stripes. Stripes give you the opportunity to use a color that is overpowering if used for solid flat paint jobs.

Plaid and Tartan

Color your interior walls plaid or tartan. You can use tape to create perfectly symmetrical striping effects that crisscross each other to form a plaid or tartan pattern.

Horror Express

Take a chance on bright warm colors like candy apple red and sunrise orange. The writers of "Creative Spaces" suggest looking to director Francis Ford Coppola's version of the Dracula story with walls that provide the streaked appearance of an eerie sunset sky. Streak your walls with a mixture of blood red, sunrise yellow and sunset orange.
