Redesign Beach Houses

Remodeling your own beach home can help save money.

Beach homes are typically designed to have a lot of room and feel comfortable, clean and breezy. They capture scenery and, with a little work, you can completely redecorate your house. By opening up living spaces, bringing out your home's natural look and adding splashes of color, your beach house will adopt an entirely new look. By remodeling your own home, you can save money and brush up on your home remodeling and decorating skills.

Instructions

1. Work on framing the scenery in your home. Select the window, deck or glass door that compliments your home's view the best. Move any large objects that block the view and put some small chairs and a table in their place so you can sit and enjoy the view.

2. Show off the wood work in your home. A good accent to a beach home is wooden beams or frames throughout the house. Find a few posts or trims that have a nice wood base and sand them down. Paint clear paint over them to prevent splinters.

3. Open up the kitchen area as a living space. Wide halls and multiple windows make the kitchen a refreshing place in a beach house. The more scenery you can see throughout the house the better. Add windows in the kitchen, or widen the walls enough to see through neighboring room's windows. Decorate the kitchen in light blue and green to match the sea.

4. Stick with earth tones like white, tan, and sandy browns when it comes tile, carpet and appliances. These colors work well in beach houses because they match the sandy atmosphere outside.

5. Paint the walls. While earth tones work well for the paint color on lower walls and appliances, accent walls will help your beachy atmosphere pop. Try dark blue, green or gray accent walls.

6. Add some calm and earth-tone furniture. Built in bookshelves and entertainment centers; white and light-colored low seating couches, chairs and coffee tables; and wooden shelves, end tables and dressers work well in beaches houses. Replace some interior doors with French doors, they will help open up the home.

7. Add decorations all around the home. Bold decorations to offset the earth tones will help the home flow. Look for items like sea shells, candles, throw blankets, pillows and simple beach or sea-life pictures and wall decorations.

8. Create a comfortable outdoor living space. A very important part of a beach house is its outdoor living area. Whether it is a deck, porch or backyard, make the outdoor space comfortable with porch swings, beach chairs, a grill, fans, hammocks and outdoor decor.
