Sponge Fresh paint A Wall Just Like A Professional

Sponge Paint a Wall Like a Pro

Sponging can be beautiful when done well, or very tacky when not done well. Here, learn sponge-paint a wall like a pro.

Instructions

1. Using the scissors, shape the sponge by snipping off any hard, straight edges.

2. Tape off adjacent walls and anywhere you don't want to sponge. Protect the floor from spills with a tarp or old sheet.

3. On a paper plate, mix the darker color of paint with glaze in about a 60/40 ratio.

4. Dip the sponge in water and wring it out so it's damp.

5. Dab the sponge into the glaze, then wipe off excess onto a paper towel.

6. Working in a small area, about three feet high by three feet wide, dab the sponge onto the wall. Cover most of the base color, and make your dabs close together. You are striving for a soft, all-over texture. This is the key to making a professional finish! Blend smoothly and vary the angle of the sponge so that the pattern of the sponge holes is obscured. The more you dab, the finer the finished look. Let some of the base color show through.

Rinse out the sponge when it gets saturated with paint.

7. DON'T space out the sponge marks!

8. When you've finished the wall and are satisfied with this layer, let it dry thoroughly.

9. Mix another glaze with your second color then repeat the process over the first layer of glaze, starting with a clean sponge.

10. You can repeat the process with more colors, if you like.

11. Variation: If you start the second color when the first color is still wet, the colors will mix and give you a third color, which is wonderful when you like the mixed color!
