An oil painting can be worth a lot of money.
An original oil painting can be a valuable or precious piece of art to own. If you have an original oil painting, then you know it can be challenging to keep clean, especially during periods of storing or when moving the oil painting. If you have found that your painting is covered in dirt or debris, there are things you can do to clean it without damaging the paint. Then, you can hang it up proudly and go back to just enjoying the work of art.
Instructions
1. Brush a newer oil painting with no damage lightly with a soft, small toothbrush. Use a gentle motion, and avoid scrubbing the oil painting. This can remove surface dirt, but should not be tried on older or damaged original oil paintings.
2. Add conversation liquid to a cotton swab so that it's damp but not soaked. This solvent can be purchased at art supply stores. For older or damaged original oil paintings, ask a professional to assess the condition before applying any liquid to the surface, even if it's done carefully.
3. Dab the soiled areas of the oil painting very carefully with the cotton swab. This should start to lift the dirt from the surface of the oil painting.
4. Look at the cotton swab after each dab. Once it's covered in dirt, throw it away and add solvent to a new one. Continue until you have cleaned the oil painting.
