Choose flowers to match the color scheme of your house.
Changing the color of a house is a huge endeavor, but---fortunately---selecting flowers to match the current color is not a difficult task. Once you take in a few considerations, you can make flower selections that will enhance and offset the current color scheme of your home, creating a visual palette that is pleasant to come home to.
Style
Different styles of homes call for different types of flowers. Consider the architecture of your home, and use this information to help guide your choices for flowers. For instance, a Victorian home serves as the perfect backdrop for romantic flowers, such as roses, peonies and gardenias. A modern contemporary home, on the other hand, is well suited for exotic and bold flowers, including tropical selections, such as cannas and Angel's Trumpet.
Colors
The color of your house is a major consideration when choosing flowers to plant. You want to select flowers that complement the house color. For instance, warm colors against warms colors, such as apricots against yellow, are harmonious. Neutral colors, such as beige and tan, also pair well with warm colors, including red and yellow. Deep reds or peach flowers look good against a brown house, while pinks, reds, whites and coral look perfect against gray. A white house will go with any color of flower, and bold colors---including red geraniums or multicolored nasturtiums---will certainly pop out against white. Consider contrasting color schemes, as well. Orange against blue, for example, creates a vivid contrast.
Brick Tones
While brick houses are not painted, the shades, tones and colors in brick help to determine which flowers will look best against them. Brick can have many tones, including orange, rose, red and brown. These highlights should be considered when selecting flowers. A brick house with orange tones, for instance, will be enhanced with flowers to highlight the orange, such as the soft yellows or apricots of impatiens. On the other hand, pink flowers, such as petunias or four o'clocks, paired with brown brick will not be pleasing to the eye. Choose colors that harmonize with the color in the brick.
