2. Consider the way your yard is landscaped or the landscaping plans you have for it. If you plan on using many pastel-colored flowers in your gardens, you may want to avoid a dark brown- or cherry red-colored siding that will detract from your lawn. However, if you don't have extensive plans for your yard, a brighter or more unusual siding color may be appropriate.
3. Consider the size your house when looking at both roof and siding colors; dark colors make items appear more compact and smaller, while light colors can exaggerate the perceived size of an object. Look at the style of the house, as there may be specific color schemes that go with certain styles. Research the original paint colors of houses in your style. This is particularly useful if you have an older house.
4. Bring home siding and roofing samples after you've established the basic color range within which you'd like to work. Ask your friends and family which colors they like; it never hurts to get a second opinion. Hold the samples next to each other as you narrow down your search; the last thing you want is a roofing color that clashes with your siding's color.
5. Consider the color of the trim work on your house. Although most trim is white, meaning it will match relatively well with most things, there are certain colors that won't look good together.
