Fresh paint Removal From Concrete Steps

Paint can be removed from concrete with a power washer.

Whether your concrete steps have been painted for years or you recently painted them and dislike the color or appearance, the process for removing the paint remains the same. This method also works on all types of concrete surfaces. So, if you have other concrete areas around your house that have been covered with paint, you can repeat this process there. Before painting your concrete steps or applying a stain or sealer over them, you must remove the paint first. This creates a better surface and a more even-looking finished product.

Instructions

1. Place a tarp over any area around your concrete steps to protect it from the pressure washer. Vinyl or plastic siding can easily be broken by power washers, which will also remove paint from other surfaces.

2. Aim a high-power pressure washer at the concrete steps. There should be at least 6 feet between the spout and the concrete steps.

3. Spray the steps with the power washer. Continue until the paint has been removed completely. There may be small spots where paint does not come off.

4. Apply a paint thinner to spots where paint wasn't removed on your steps. These are often chemical strippers that can be found at a hardware store. Although most paint strippers vary, the standard process is to apply the thinner, let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes and then scrub with a bristle brush.
