Brown paint can be the only or accent color in a living room.
Brown, like any other neutral color, can bring a level of classiness and warmth to any living room. Brown can be an overpowering color, however, especially if it's in a place with little sunlight. Painting your living room brown can create a dynamic balance between other colors and furniture in the room, especially if it contains brown accents. Purchase sample brown shades from your hardware store to test the wall or trim item you want to paint to determine if the shade of brown works with your living room's color scheme.
Instructions
1. Use colors like dark green to accent a brown painted room or wall, especially if you have hardwood floors. Since many pieces of furniture and hardwood floors are brown in color, then painting the room brown or dark green accentuates the furniture and floors.
2. Paint an entire living room, though the brown color may be too dramatic. Or, choose an accent wall, which can either be the smallest wall in your living room or the largest to give a subtle or dramatic look to the living room. You can choose lighter or brighter contrasting colors, like red and orange, to complement the dark brown. If you choose to paint an entire living room dark brown, use lighter colored furniture and rugs to bring some balance into the room.
3. Use brown paint for the trim. Paint the panels separating the ceiling from the wall or the floor from the wall's brown color to get a subtle accent to the living room. Your window pane can also be painted brown to accent the overall color scheme of your room.
4. Purchase different shades of brown to create contrast in your living room. For example, you can choose a dark brown for your entire living room walls, yet use a beige or lighter brown for the trim and window panes.
