Old Hand made Cabinets That Will Use A Log Home

Wood cabins can be well decorated with wood cabinets.

When adding cabinets to a log home you often want to make sure the cabinets match with the feel and the look of the log home. This can be accomplished by matching the wood style of the cabin itself or finding woods providing contrast to the look of the cabin. Cabinets today can either be actually old or made to look as though they are an old style.

Free-Standing Cabinets

Depending on what portion of the log home you are putting cabinets in, there are a number of free-standing choices. These cabinets are usually found in bathrooms, hallways, dining rooms, or bedrooms as a place of storage or practicality. If your log home is more "rustic" looking, darker woods will likely go with the overall look of the house. These cabinets often have aged hardware to add to the feel, as well as the use of wood grain with many knots or imperfections. You can find them with counters fit for sinks, and you might choose a bathroom sink that is porcelain instead of stainless steel to give it a more old-time feel. Some people even use a brass or copper-colored bowl as a sink.

Lodge Pole Pine

Lodge pole pine has been increasingly used to build furniture and cabins since the 1980's. These are often considered more of a "frontier" look. Kitchen cabinets can be made with lodge pole pine adding a nice frame to the outside of the doors and drawers. In the center you can stick with the matching color of wood or add some depth by using glass or a contrasting darker wood. This makes lodge pole pine match even with darker color cabins.

Wooden Hardware

Some people choose to outfit the cabinets with new hardware, such as stainless steel, to give things a more modern look. To match the look of a log cabin, you can use wooden knobs and handles to help the cabinets fit in with the rest of the look. This allows for the overall feel to be all-wooden and log-based.

Countertops

Cabinets are often redone with marble or some form of hard and sustainable surface material. Older cabinets were usually done with wooden tops. Using block wood for the top of the counters ties the log home together. It also gives the cabinets a more handcrafted, olden feel. The wood tops can be more difficult to upkeep, but the true older cabinets were made this way.
