Get Rid Of Extra Fresh paint

Landfills do not accept liquid paint.

If you want to get rid of those extra cans of paint in your basement, you can't just toss them in the trash. Curbside garbage collections and landfills don't usually accept liquid paint. You may be able to take extra paint to a hazardous materials facility, but it's easier to dry the paint at home and then dispose of it in the garbage. Better yet, give your excess paint to someone who will use it. Latex paint lasts for up to 10 years, while oil paint lasts up to 15 years.

Instructions

1. Donate your extra paint to a neighbor, friend, church, school, house rehabilitation program or community theater group. You may also be able to return unopened paint to the store from which you purchased it.

2. Dispose of small amounts of paint by brushing the paint on old newspapers. Make sure you work in a well-ventilated area away from pets or children. Let the newspapers dry and then throw them away.

3. Add paint hardener to a can of paint to dispose of larger amounts of paint. Pour a cup of water in the paint to activate the hardener. Stir thoroughly and wait 30 minutes to an hour for the paint to thicken and harden. Throw away the paint in your trash.
