Mixing interior paint together will help ensure an even finish.
Many novice painters do not realize that the color in a can of paint actually varies slightly from can to can. When doing a large painting project, it can be necessary to use several gallons of paint which could potentially mean an uneven finish. In order to ensure a uniform paint color, it is important to mix your interior paint together.
Instructions
1. Check to make sure that the interior paint you intend to mix are the same type of finish. Look at the label on each can of paint and make sure all of the paint is either matte, flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss or gloss. Do not mix two different paint finishes together, because they will not mix well.
2. Drape a widow screen over a 5-gallon bucket and secure at the bottom of the bucket with tape. The window screen will act as a strainer to help easily remove any dried paint particles that may come from a previously opened can of paint.
3. Pour a can of paint into the 5-gallon bucket. Let the paint strain through the window screen. Continue pouring each paint can into the bucket, allowing time for the paint to strain completely before pouring in the next can.
4. Remove the widow screen once all the paint has been poured into the bucket. Place the screen in a plastic trash bag and discard.
5. Stir the paint with a long wooden stir stick. Make sure the paint has been completely mixed before you start painting. Stir frequently when applying paint to make sure the paint color remains consistent.
