The paint color you choose can be on the building for years.
When you own a commercial property, such as a retail location or an office building, giving the outside of the property a whole new look can help attract customers and tenants to the building. In addition to adding new landscaping features, you might also consider a new paint job for the building's exterior to help liven up the property. Picking out a commercial property's paint color can be an easier task than you might think.
Instructions
1. Look around the neighborhood at the other commercial buildings. The color you choose should differentiate your building but should not clash with the neighborhood. For example, being the only green building on the block can help set your property apart, but being the only neon green building in a neighborhood with all neutral and brick structures can make your property look gaudy and out of place.
2. Check out the other elements of the building that could clash with your new paint color, such as the roof, window frames or surrounding items like stairs, railings or walkways.
3. Decide what effect you want the color of the commercial property to have. Small buildings look larger with lighter paint colors, while large buildings can look smaller with dark colors. A building close to the street appears farther away with dark color.
4. Contrast the existing colors with the paint color you choose if you want a dramatic, bold effect. Opt for light, neutral colors that blend with the existing colors for a sophisticated, low-key look.
5. Get samples of the colors you're considering and look at the samples against all existing colors of your commercial property. Also, view the samples in the morning, afternoon and at night because they will look different with changing natural light.
