Color can brighten your drab home rooms.
Three primary options are available to view paint colors with products like Behr, which boasts nearly 2,000 colors from which to choose. You can view them online, in the store or use a free mobile phone application, which allows you to virtually paint your home interior rooms before actually picking up a paintbrush. The technology, known as ColorSmart, is a free download app for use on Apple iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.
Exterior
Stain your concrete walk or drive to add color to your home's exterior. Stain also can protect your concrete drive or walkway from the elements, providing dual benefits. Stain concrete to look like natural stone or to match your home's exterior. For natural stone looks in earth tones, go with an acid-based stain. Choose water-based stains for more color options, like Lemon Balm. Refrain from walking on the newly stained concrete for 24 hours and don't drive on it for 72 hours after staining, according to Behr's website. Paint your home exterior in one color, like Silky White, while trimming shutters in another, like Silky Green.
Dens and Living Rooms
Create conversations by making your walls look like real grass cloth or a traditional knockdown, which resembles stucco. Behr's Environmental color is a good choice for grass-cloth paint and Pyramid Gold or Sienna Dust is suitable for stucco looks. Adding one part Behr paint to four parts Behr glaze helps you create these finishes on the wall. This formula also can be used to create geometric swirls or a painted canvas look. Coloring your walls with paint and glaze can change the overall decorative look without the expense of hanging expensive wall paper or hiring someone to actually stucco your walls.
Baths and Kitchens
If you have a marble tub or natural stone kitchen floor you want to accent, minimize your walls by painting them white. White walls also make kitchens look clean and crisp. White walls also prevent rooms from appearing too colorful or overpowering when furniture and decorations are added. Behr's Ultra Pure White, or a softer white called Ballet White are good choices. Liven up a bathroom by using one color but in a variety of textures and hues, according to Better Homes and Gardens. Pair Haitian Flower with Bjiou Red for a two-toned color look for your bath. Adding a glaze with a velvet texture, along with silver accessories, gives the room the feel of a stylish powder room.
Bedrooms
Mix and match colors and paint glaze textures in your bedroom for a new look. Paint your ceiling Behr Duchess Lilac, adding a glaze that makes it look washed, and then color walls with Darkest Grape. Highlight your bedroom walls with Embroidery, a light pink Behr color, and top it at the ceiling level with Spiced Wine for contrast.
