Fresh paint A Gold Shower Faucet

Repaint a gold faucet for a new look.

Re-decorating a bathroom can be as simple as painting a few of the fixtures and walls to give them a new look. You can paint your shower faucet, but choose the right type of paint and finish since the faucet will constantly be wet and exposed to changing temperatures. Choose automobile or outdoor paint, as both are highly water resistant. Practice your spray-painting technique on a piece of cardboard before painting your faucets; applying an even coat of paint can be tricky.

Instructions

1. Remove the faucet by removing the screw that holds it in place or by prying it off with a flat-head screwdriver.

2. Sand the faucet with 220-grit sandpaper. Work until the entire faucet feels rough. This will help the paint adhere to the surface.

3. Scrub the faucet with superfine steel wool to smooth it out as much as possible.

4. Rinse the faucet with clear water and dry it completely.

5. Tape any areas of the faucet you don't want painted.

6. Spray one coat of automobile metal primer on the faucet. Let it dry according to the manufacturer and apply another coat if the manufacturer recommends it. Let it dry completely.

7. Spray one light but even coat of outdoor metal spray paint over the faucet. Let it dry according to the manufacturer's directions and apply a second coat. Let it dry to the touch.

8. Press a razor blade in between the tape and the faucet to remove the tape without peeling any of the paint.

9. Let the faucet dry completely for at least 48 hours before using the faucet.
