Digital Photo Frame Questions

A digital picture frame displays many pictures with one frame.

Photo frames hang around the house with the same pictures in them for years. Digital photo frames revolutionized photo displays by incorporating LCD screens into picture frames. Digital frames allow for pictures to be displayed digitally with the best picture quality possible. These frames also make it possible to display hundreds of photos in a slide show with transitions. Before buying a frame, there are many factors to consider.

What Features Should I Look For in a Digital Photo Frame?

Maximum resolution is the No. 1 factor to consider when shopping for a digital photo frame. The higher the resolution the better quality in picture display. This can also be determined through the amount of pixels. The more pixels, the better the screen. A typical wide VGA (WVGA) resolution is 800 pixels x 480 pixels. The screens usually have an aspect ratio of 4:3, like a full-screen television, or a 16:9 aspect ratio like a widescreen television.

How Many Pictures Can My Frame Store?

Most digital photo frames have a fixed amount of internal memory. Depending on the resolution of the pictures and the file sizes, the frame can hold a varied number of pictures. Look for a frame with a memory card slot to expand the storage. A 32GB memory card can hold approximately 10,000 pictures. In addition, resize your pictures to the resolution size of the frame before loading them to the frame or card. This will take up less room on the card without sacrificing quality.

Do I Want It to Play Music?

There are digital photo frames that have MP3 playback to add music to the slide show. Keep in mind that the music is stored on the same memory card with the pictures and that the speakers will not be of high quality. Check to see if the speakers are stereo or mono, with stereo being the better option.

What Other Features Should I Consider?

Brightness is also a factor to think about, as a higher brightness could mean a better display, but it is not always the case. Consider the location you want the frame. Because a digital photo frame needs power, some may require a location near a power outlet. Consider the frame size, as the frames are available in different sizes. Some frames are wall mountable, have interchangeable inserts and remote controls.
