Create A Stencil Using Fresh paint

Stencils make all kinds of images.

Paint is a simple program that makes many graphic images. Among them is the stencil. A stencil is used many times to make the same image over and over on nearly any surface. Stencils are used to mark boxes, to create wall art and borders or to make large paintings. Creating a stencil in Paint is easy and requires only a few basic software skills. You just need a picture and some hand-eye coordination.

Instructions

1. Open the Microsoft Paint program on your computer. Then click "File," then "New" and locate the picture you want to use. If the picture is not on your computer, attach your camera's USB cable to the camera and then slide the USB connection into an open USB port on your computer. A dialog box will pop up on your computer. Select "Copy Pictures to File," then select a file to store the pictures in. Click "Next" and your photos will begin to download.

2. Select "Image" in the upper toolbar and then click on "Colors." Select "Black and White" to change the picture to a black and white image. This is not necessary, but it will make the picture easier to cut out.

3. Load a sheet of stencil paper into your printer. Use either a heavier card stock printing paper (100 lb. or higher) or a sheet of acetate paper. Any stiff plastic or cardboard sheet will work fine as a stencil.

4. Select "File" and then click "Print" in the Paint program. This calls up your print program and will print the image.

5. Remove the printed image from your printer and cut out all the dark black areas using a utility knife. Cut the shapes as accurately as possible but generalize and simplify complicated shapes to make the cutting process smoother and easier.
