Design Interactive Luxury Houses

An interactive luxury home can be of any desired design.

Interactive luxury homes are outfitted with systems that allow you to control the details of your everyday life with the ease of a touchscreen panel. These systems are part of an overarching network that lets you decide how your home functions, even when you aren't there. The network can be fully automated, or partially or fully programmed, and all the data stored in your home's various systems. Luxury homes are based on space, richness in materials and layout, and now extensive technology.

Instructions

Home Design

1. Draw a rectangle representing the property line on one sheet of drawing paper in light pencil. Use a suitable scale, as you'll continue the design with these measurements. For example, if your lot is 200 feet by 350 feet, use a scale of 1/8 inch equal to 1 foot. This would make your drawing 25 inches by 43.75 inches. This is a simple scale to use for the home, landscaping and yard.

2. Choose the style for your home. Modern homes are commonly outfitted with interactive automated systems, as the lighting, furniture and structure lend themselves to technological enhancements. For example, the Pavilion Style home can easily be designed to include these systems. It features an open concept plan, natural light and an often split-level horizontal planar design.

3. Write a list of the rooms you want in your new home. Don't forget the bare necessities, such as living and dining rooms, a kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. Embellish these with an office, home theater, laundry room, den and any other desired space. Draw a flow chart of these rooms to explore how they'll fit together, which will dictate the rooms you place next to one another and how their spaces interrelate.

4. Draw your new home's outline using the same scale as the property line to gain a correct space perspective. The Pavilion Style features square or rectangular spaces that flow into one another, with short corridors between them, if necessary. Design your home's rooms as outlined in your notes.

Interactive Systems

5. Call an area company specializing in interactive luxury homes. These systems must be installed by a professional company, unless you possess the expertise. Arrange a meeting with a representative and discuss the available options. Decide which systems would enhance your everyday life. Show the floor plan to the representative and obtain his suggestions on where the control panels should be placed, where the wiring will go and how the systems can be accessed.

6. Draw the control panel onto your plan. For many systems, this is a simple touchscreen panel. Its location depends on your personal preference. The kitchen might be the family hub, making it a strong choice, or the front entrance might also work for you.

7. Draw in the elements that are affected by the interactive systems. Lighting, audio equipment and the home theater will be part of the systems, along with window coverings that control natural light in your home. These can all be programmed according to your schedule and preferences.

8. Schedule the installation and setup of your interactive automated systems.
