Often an under-designed space in the home, stair treads are the gateway to other areas of the home and can be jazzed up with color and accessories. Painting the stair treads in bright colors like orange and green creates a makeshift runner leading to the space. Try stenciling a phrase on every other step to add movement and creativity to the design. Fabric, such as carpet squares in bold stripes or polka dots, not only creates a soft layer over the staircase, but also creates a whimsical decorating display. Accessorize the stair treads with baskets and figurines to draw your eye into the space. For example, lanterns resting on each tread creates a magical, glowing display.
