Remolding Suggestions For Double Wide Trailers

Update your double wide trailer by remodeling it.

If you live in or own a double wide trailer (mobile home) in need of updating, it's time to remodel it. When deciding on what to remodel, do not forget about the exterior of the home. Remodeling the interior and exterior ensures you have completely remodeled your double wide and adds curb appeal.

Drywall

Remove the paneling in your double wide and hang drywall. Many trailers have paneling on the walls. Paneling dates the double wide and creates a dark, dreary home. Hanging paneling allows you easily paint the walls of the double wide and updates the look and feel of the home. You do not have to remove the paneling to hang drywall in your double wide unless of course you wish to do so.

Paint

If you do not wish to remove your paneling and replace it with another material such as drywall, paint it. Prime the paneling with a primer before applying paint to it. This ensures your paint does not scrape off the paneling and sticks well. Take into account the grooves in the paneling, as you may wish to fill them in with putty to create a smooth wall. When selecting your paint colors take into account light paint creates the illusion of a larger, airy room while dark paint creates the illusion of a smaller, darker room.

Flooring

Commonly, double wide trailers have thin carpet and laminate flooring. Replacing the flooring throughout your double wide remodels the floor in the entire home. Thick carpet, laminate flooring and floating floor work well in trailers as they are able to withstand a move, shall the trailer ever be moved in the future. Tile and hardwood flooring may break during a move causing you to replace the flooring a second time.

Doors

Replace all doors in your double wide trailer with hard wood doors. Typically, doors in a trailer do not contain hard wood and are hollow, causing accidental holes or damage to them. Replacing them with solid doors prevents this. Your home improvement center can cut the doors to your specific size for each doorway in your trailer. You may wish to stain or paint the wooden doors to complement your trailers d cor.

Deck

Instead of having traditional steps on your double wide, build a custom deck. Building a deck adds an outdoor living space to your double wide and allows you to designated place to hold your barbecue grill.
