Prep For Spray Painting

Keep spray paint cans in proper storage according to the instructions on the container.

Spray painting can be an easy and affordable way to refurbish a piece of furniture or household item. Spray painting, however, needs to be planned since it can cause a mess and be difficult to apply to some items. One of the general guidelines is to move the project outdoors if possible such as into a garage. If a garage is not available, try a basement.

Instructions

1. Pick a spot to spray paint. Place old sheets over any item in the area that you do not want to get spray paint on.

2. Place the piece of furniture or item on a table or an elevated surface. Arrange it so to minimize its movement during the spray painting.

3. Practice your spray painting technique on a piece of old cardboard. Move back and forth as you spray. Once the area you are spraying is covered, move to the next area. Practice having a steady stroke back and forth. This will also give you a chance to make sure the spray can or gun works properly.

4. Keep a few extra rags nearby for quick clean ups.
