Sure, you can pick up some generic house numbers from the hardware store, but why not make your own piece of art with these fun ideas.
Mosaic
Make a fun mosaic house number with simple inexpensive supplies. Before you begin gluing down tiles and other materials, sketch out a design to use as a guide. Use design elements like borders and maybe a small floral motif in a corner, but keep the design simple. Spread a layer of adhesive grout onto a piece of mosaic gauze and lay your design out with pieces of tile, small shells, pebbles and other objects. Use mosaic tiles to make a colorful border. There are other methods of making mosaic tiles that will also work for this project. Mosaic designs look especially great on Spanish-style homes.
Paint It On
For an easy, installation-free house number, paint it directly on your front door. Find a favorite font and print out a copy of how you would like your house number to look. If you have a steady hand and are confident in your artistic abilities, you can draw the numbers onto your front door with chalk and then fill them in with exterior paint. If not, glue the paper printout onto some heavy cardstock, cut the numbers out with a utility knife and then use it as a stencil.
Spell It Out
For a creative twist on the traditional numeric address marker, spell out the house number rather than just using the numerical characters. For example, instead of having it read "123," you would use "One twenty-three" or "One hundred and twenty-three." Avoid annoyed postal workers by also having a traditional numerical house number somewhere near your door or on your mailbox.
Rock Out
If you like the simple and natural look, all you need is a rock to create the perfect house number marker. If you are handy with a chisel, you can engrave a big rock that has a flatter surface with your house number. Many companies will do this for you, too, for a more professional look. Paint in the number to make it stand out more. Place the large rock at the end of your driveway or near your front porch. Accent it with a spotlight so people can find your house at night.

Let your house number reflect a bit of your personality or lifestyle. Place distressed iron numbers inside the curve of a horseshoe on your western ranch house. Use modern stainless steel numbers for a sleek loft apartment. Find a decorative antique house number to give your historic row house a little more authentic character.
