The Easiest Method To Fresh paint Over Laminate

Laminate needs to be properly removed from a surface before painting.

Painting over laminate can seem like a daunting task, since paint doesn't like to stick to laminated surfaces as it does to regular hardwood or most other surfaces. Luckily, it is possible to efficiently paint over laminate when following a few steps.

Instructions

1. Sand over the entire area that you want to paint using 220 grit sandpaper. Using a palm sander is recommended for larger areas because it will save you time and energy. Be careful not to sand too deeply. All you want to do is eliminate the laminate's shine.

2. Wipe down the area using a cloth to remove all debris from laminate.

3. Prime the area. Varying brands differ in their application process, so follow the instructions on your product.

4. Allow primer to dry completely before applying any paint. Again, brands will differ in amount of time needed to dry, so follow directions. This is vital to prevent any scratches from occurring.

5. Apply a thin coat of oil-based paint using a foam paintbrush and allow to dry. Oil-based paints are ideal because they will provide a smoother surface. Foam paintbrushes are best because they will create a smooth, even coat.

6. Apply another thin coat of paint and allow to dry.
