Tips About Painting With Red-colored Fresh paint

Red paint is one of the most dramatic style choices you can make for your home. It is important to follow several tips for painting with this color, however, in order to insure it looks smooth and put together. Red paint can bleed easily and can become smeared if you don't follow these suggestions set forth by Renae Herms, an interior designer for several consulting firms in Minneapolis MN.

Start with an Even Base

Start with an even base so that your red coats are even. Although red is a dark color, it is also a color that is prone to showing what is underneath, says Herms. Be sure that you have a solid and streak free base to start with. Don't paint red over wallpaper or over different colors. Have a plain white base coat, and make sure that you can only see white before you begin. Have a smooth surface to work with. Get rid of any holes or bumps on your wall before you begin.

Paint One Coat At A Time

Paint one coat at a time, but be prepared for a couple of coats. Red can be hard to get right on the first try, says Herms, so be prepared to need to do several coats of the paint before you are finished. Completely paint the wall once, let it dry, and then do a second coat.

While you are painting red, be sure that you are using even brush strokes and keep the brush moving at all times. Take care to only go over a section two or three times with your brush per coat, as this will help to keep the entire wall or room evenly red.

Tinted Primers

Try using tinted primers before you paint with red. Many people, including Herms, state that tinted primers are the best way to insure an even coat. You can buy a tinted primer at any paint store, home improvement store, or design store. Bring in a sample of the red you intend to use and ask the paint specialist to help you choose a tinted primer that best matches your color. Using a tinted base coat can help save you from having to purchase several cans of expensive paints in the long run.
