Metallic paint is commonly used on show cars to make them look exciting.
Decorators are always looking for new ways to innovate for their custom clients. Over the last few years metals have taken a stronger role in home decor, particularly in upscale and modern homes. New metal finishes are available at all levels of the market in everything from lamps to furniture and faucets to appliances. Bringing new metallic pop to your decor can be as easy as purchasing a can of metallic paint.
Instructions
1. Place underlayment over an old floor. Sand and smooth the underlayment until it is a good work surface. Clean the floor of all debris using a vacuum cleaner. Apply a coat of metallic paint using a foam roller. Mix the paint very thoroughly and select a strong color. Sand between coats with fine sandpaper if you apply several coats. The resulting floor will be showstopping with metal flakes inside the paint. Allow the paint to dry for 48 hours.
2. Position contemporary and urban-style furniture over the floor. The furniture should be low and wide in neutral colors that don't compete with the floor color. Add a textural rug to anchor the seating area.
3. Spray a large metal light fixture using the same color and style of metallic paint. This will bring the eye upward to see the height of the ceiling and the second use of the paint will tie the floor and ceiling together.
4. Add accents using the underlying color in the paint. Select vases, pillows and art objects to move the color around the room at mid level. Mix other natural metal objects with the metallic finish so that the metals can play off each other. Add mirrors to reflect the glossy floor surface and expand the space.
5. Add a touch of metallic paint in each room that is directly visible from the main room where you have used the paint. This will connect each room together and create continuity and flow. Paint can be added to a wall, floor, fixtures and almost any surface. Prep the surface well as glossy paint can reveal flaws.
