Tuscan Patio
A Tuscan patio is a place to relax with family and friends. Outdoor living is important in Italy because of the beautiful weather. When you decorate your patio you may find that you use it a lot more and even want to throw parties or barbeques out there. Recreate the feeling of your dream vacation if you can't afford an Italian getaway. With a little paint and concrete stain, you can turn an ordinary suburban patio into a Tuscan dream.
Instructions
1. Use natural stone. The Tuscan style focuses on nature. Look for a patio table made out of stone. Have a contractor lay down natural stone pavers that will add color and style to your space.
2. Bring in warm colors. A Tuscan color palette consists of earth tones balanced with rich oranges, yellows and reds. You can even paint the back exterior wall of your home a different color than the front. Spruce up your concrete with a coat of stain or concrete paint. If you want to stick to neutral colors, try a burnt sienna instead of a traditional beige color. Stain your fence a rich dark walnut color for added drama.
3. Be inspired by wine. This doesn't mean that you have to buy dishes with grapes on them. If you are afraid of orange and yellow, decorate your patio with a rich eggplant and subtle green color palette.
4. Create a comfortable eating area. When you think of Tuscany, you probably think of food. Look for a dining set where you can linger over your meal for hours. Find iron chairs with scroll work for more Tuscan flavor. Make sure they have a high back and soft cushions so your guests will want to stay and talk after dinner.
5. Turn the patio into an outdoor living space. Decide what is keeping you from spending more time on the patio. If you have traffic noises in your back yard install a fountain. Fountains drown out the sound and create a peaceful atmosphere, and they are in keeping with the Tuscan theme. Find a fountain that looks like natural stone. Light up the space with a Tuscany-inspired candelabra, which will also make the dining area seem more elegant.
6. Decorate with greenery. If you bring in Tuscan colors with concrete stain and paint, you might be afraid of overwhelming the space. Scale back on the flowers. This will save you money as well. Instead, balance out the bright paint colors with trees and vines.
