Paint your roof gutters to prevent rust stains.
Gutters keep debris and rodents away from the foundational structure of the roof, as well preventing rainwater and snow from flooding into the house. This is why you need to maintain your galvanized gutters with correct paints and primers. Painting will keep them from rusting and causing stains. Water that collects in rusty gutters will run through the downspout and stain your property where it exits.
Instructions
1. Remove the paint from the outside of the gutter using an infrared paint remover. These removers heat the old paint to remove it easily, which cuts the project time down.
2. Prime the outside of the gutter with a galvanized metal primer. Apply two coats with a paintbrush and let the primer dry thoroughly.
3. Paint on top of the primer with an acrylic latex exterior paint in whichever color you choose.
4. Scrape the paint off the inside of the gutter with a wire brush. Remove all of the paint and any rust in the gutter.
5. Clean the inside of the gutter with a mild household cleaning fluid and a cloth.
6. Prime the inside of the gutter with a high-performance rust inhibitive primer. Let the primer dry completely.
7. Apply a high-strength finish coating down the center channel of the gutter and immediately place reinforcing cloth on top of it. You want to lay the cloth while the finish coating is still wet to achieve the best adhesion.
8. Paint over the cloth with the finish coating until it is saturated. Cover the rest over the interior of the gutter with the coating as well.
9. Add a third coat of finish coating to the inside of the gutter after letting the second coat dry for at least 24 hours.
