If you plan on setting off Roach Aerosol Bombs in your home, proper preparation is critical, keeping in mind that you will be releasing airborne chemicals into the air. By employing simple preparation practices you can insure that your food will not be contaminated, and that your family and pets will not be at risk.
Instructions
1. Empty out all your kitchen cabinets and place these items in another room, other than a bathroom. Try to build a tight pile or stack.
2. Clear the kitchen counters of any appliances, such as coffee makers, food storage canisters, toasters and such. Put these items in the room with the items from the cabinets. Clear the kitchen of any food.
3. Empty the bathroom cabinets, storage areas and clear the counters, putting these items with your pile from the kitchen. Remove soaps, shampoos, and shower products and body brushes.
4. Cover all the items that you removed from the bathroom and kitchen with the drop cloths, sheets or blankets.
5. Be sure all ceiling fans, air conditioners or exhaust fans are shut off and that windows and doors are closed. Unplug any oxygen sensors. Smoke alarms can be left alone since there is no heat involved with the use of the bombs.
6. Regarding pets, if you have fish, cover the top of the tank with plastic, then tape the plastic tightly around the sides. If you have a filtration system, turn the motor off. Seal the motor housing itself with plastic if any inbound air ports are subject to open air, which may be dispersed into the tank when the motor is turned on. Put the any pet foods, supplies, feeding trays and toys with your kitchen items under the covers, or leave them in a closed cabinet. Just be sure they are in sealed containers.
7. Get prepared for everyone to leave soon including any pets except the fish. If you leave a birdcage in the house, remove food, water and any other items and seal the cage off with plastic. Birds are highly susceptible to insecticides.
8. Read the label instructions on the aerosol cans and either jot down the active ingredients to carry with you, or take a can with you. In the event of an emergency, you will have this important info for a doctor. Also, keep the phone number and location of the nearest poison control center or hospital with you.
9. Set the bombs in locations that make sense. Usually in the center of a room and away from any air return ducts is best. Remove any obstructions to the aerosol tip. You should have at least 3 feet of clearance in all directions from the tip. Follow the instructions regarding square footage coverage per bomb on the can.
10. Get everyone, including the pets, out of the house. Typically you will need to be out of the house for 2 to 3 hours, but follow the directions on the can for specific instructions.
11. Tape a large note on your outside entry doors to warn people from entering your home.
12. Put your paper face mask on and set off the bombs starting with the furthest one from the door you will be leaving from. Work quickly and plan out your moves ahead of time. As you set off a bomb, be sure to have the tip aimed away from you.
13. Upon reentering after the specified time, put your face mask on again just in case the vapors are still circulating. You may open doors and windows and turn on venting fans if you wish to airate the house. There may still be small amounts of chemical in the air and a possible odor left behind.
