1. Make sure your wholesale or tax identification number is valid and ready to be provided to manufactures. You are not able to buy wholesale rug or attend furniture show unless you have this number.


2. If you do not have a tax identification number, apply for one with the IRS. They have a website that will guide you through the information needed to obtain this number. You can also call their Business and Specialty Tax office at 1-800-829-4933 to file for the tax identification number.


3. Be prepared to show manufacturers your tax identification number and possibly a business card. Ask the manufacturer if he has a minimum for the buy. Some manufacturers require a minimum. Other manufacturers will allow smaller orders because they are shipping so many rugs to numerous other wholesalers.


4. Contact a direct manufacturer like China Furniture Supplier. They have a Website that features jute rugs are made overseas in China. These rugs can be bought directly and shipped within six weeks. The prices range from a hundred dollars to a couple of thousand. You will find the link in our Resources section.


5. Log onto Alibaba's Website to find global sources for jute rugs. Alibaba is a one stop source for all manufacturer's globally. It allows you to source a manufacturer that may not attend a furniture. At Alibab, you can find Indian, Chinese and other eastern sources for jute rug manufacturers. 6. Make sure to order a sample from the source at Alibaba. Most samples are paid for upfront. The cost is refunded once you make your order. Otherwise, you can ship it back, and the company will credit your credit card.


7. Apply for registration to a furniture trade show. There are numerous trade shows for wholesale members only that have rug manufacturers represented. Some of these show include the Atlanta's Highpoint Furniture Show and New York's Home Textiles Market Week.


8. Once at a trade show, negotiate the minimum buy if you are just starting out. However, the more you order, the less you will spend on each rug. The per piece price goes down in what is called price breaks. Price breaks usually start at 100 to 150 rugs.


9. Ask the manufacturer at the trade show how long the shipping will take. Make sure their time line fits with your business needs. Most manufacturers take a minimum of six weeks for shipping. Some may take up to six months if the rugs are custom made.
