Fresh paint An Area With Black Furniture

For many individuals interior design and decoration can be complicated and even overwhelming. Most people do not have the leisure of hiring a professional to assist with the process. Owning black furniture can make the process even more frustrating because you do not want to paint the room the "wrong" color and up with a space that feels small, dark or overwhelming. If the perfect color is selected the room can feel larger, welcoming and well designed.

Instructions

1. Determine what you like and dislike about the current wall color. Depending on the current, color black furniture may be accented, blend or even clash. By deciding what you like in the current color, you can choose similar traits in the next color--such as warmth, coolness and neutrality.

2. Evaluate the furniture and accessories. Almost any type color furniture and accessories can coordinate with black furniture although these same items do have the potential to clash with the new wall color.

3. Decide the mood or theme you want to create in the room. This will start eliminating certain paint colors during the selection process. For example, if you want to create a bold or dramatic feeling, a shade of red or white may be the best option. For a more relaxed feeling blues or neutral tones may be ideal.

4. Determine the shade or brightness of the paint color. Deeper or darker shades can add depth, contrast and drama. Lighter shades can add to the contrast black furniture creates between the items and the wall. Take caution, however, when choosing darker tones to prevent the black furniture from "blending" into the wall color.

5. Select a variety of paint samples to bring home and compare against the furniture. Paint colors can change with lighting and against items of furniture and accessories. What may look appealing in store lighting may not have the same effect when presented in a home environment.

6. Purchase sample size paints if you are unsure which color to choose. Sample paints are a convenient way to "try out" a color without committing to a whole gallon. Paint a small area, and place an item of black furniture in front of the color. It will be easier to see the overall effect this way compared to the paint swatches if you are undecided about what paint color you are choosing.
