Sometimes a room needs more than just an off-white or a beige color to give it more character and interest. If you have cool-colored or blue decor and you want to create a calming atmosphere, shades of blue and purple would be a good choice. Blue and purple are relaxing colors that are most commonly used in bedrooms or bathrooms but can be used in virtually any part of the house to create a calming effect.
Instructions
1. Choose a few shades of blue and purple at the paint store and take samples home to see how they look in the natural and artificial lighting you use. Paint will sometimes look different in varied lighting conditions.
2. Decide how you want to paint and if you will be painting the molding a different color. White molding gives a modern, sophisticated feel to a room while molding in different colors is more playful.
3. Prep the walls by filling in any holes or cracks with putty. Sand down existing paint for a smooth surface that the paint will stick to. If you are going to be painting new walls, use a primer first.
4. Section off areas that you don't want to get paint on by edging them with blue painter's tape. Make sure the tape is completely flat against the surface so no paint will get underneath it.
5. Paint the edges against the tape first and follow immediately with your paint rollers on the inside. Make even, light strokes with your roller and brushes.
