Spray guns come in either gravity-feed or conventional-feed varieties; most high volume/low pressure guns are gravity-feed guns. For any large painting project, a spray gun is an essential tool. The tool covers large areas quickly and provides a flawless coat of paint. As most homes are painted with latex-based paints, it is important to know prepare your project for painting with a spray gun. Don't pour paint straight from the can into the gun or it will clog and not spray properly.
Instructions
1. Pour 1 gallon of latex paint into a 2-gallon bucket.
2. Add 1/3 cup of distilled water to the paint and stir.
3. Let paint run off of the paint stick to check its thickness. It should be runny and thin, but not so watery that it becomes translucent.
4. Add more water, a bit at a time, if needed.
5. Set up tarps on the floor of the room you plan to paint. Mask with tape any windows, door frames and molding you don't want to paint.
6. Pour a small amount of the paint into the reservoir at the top of the spray gun.
7. Test the paint on the wall. If it is too thick and clogs the gun, empty the reservoir, turn up the air pressure all the way and blast out the clog. Thin the paint and try again.
8. Begin painting in smooth, steady lines once the paint has reached the right thickness. Be careful not to create overspray on areas you don't want to paint.
