Easy Interior Painting Techniques

There are techniques for painting that can turn what might be considered an arduous or painstaking job into a relatively easy one from start to finish. With the right supplies, you can achieve even lines, end spatters and protect the floors from paint smears. The type of paint used is as important as the brushes, rollers and tape. Select a paint that will provide the coverage needed without having to apply several coats and works well over other types of paint. Not all paint brands work the same. Using a good brand of paint with the following techniques will give you wonderful results.

Instructions

1. Ready the room for painting by removing all the nails, pictures or wall hangings from the walls. Place all the furniture into the center of the room so you will have ample space to work. Remove the furniture if necessary.

2. Use the low tack tape and run it along the edge of window and door casings to prevent paint from getting on them. If you have baseboard moulding in the room, tape newspaper onto the top edge of it using the low tack tape. Place the plastic drop cloth onto the floor. Apply tape to the edge and place the taped edge of the plastic onto the baseboard underneath the newspaper. If you don't have baseboard, then tape the plastic securely to the floor, leaving no part of the flooring exposed.

3. Stir the paint well and pour it into a roller pan. Use the China bristle brush and paint around the door and window casings. Apply tape to the ceiling edge where it meets the walls. Paint the wall along the edge with the brush and remove the tape as you work. By removing the tape as you go, the ceiling paint is less likely to flake off or peel when the tape is removed. Place the brush into the water to soak while painting the room.

4. Roll the paint onto the walls. Keep a damp rag handy in case of spills. By the time you have painted all the walls, the first wall will have dried and will be ready for a second coat of paint. Continue until all the walls have two coats of paint.

5. Remove the remaining tape after the paint has dried completely. Don't leave the tape on for an extended period of time since it will adhere to the paint, making removal difficult.

6. Clean all the supplies using warm water and detergent. The warm water will make paint removal easier.
