Experience Haunted Cape Cod

Experience Haunted Cape Cod

Cape Cod is touted as being one of the most haunted locations in the United States. Four hundred years of conflict, love and discovery have filled this waters-edge location with the spirits of past, and you can meet them if you dare. From Hyannis Port to Martha's Vineyard, your next journey to the lovely lands of the Cape should include a little ghost hunting. Grab your equipment and let's go.

Instructions

1. Start at Daggett House Inn in Martha's Vineyard, Edgartown Massachusetts. Located at 59 N. Water Street, this site is the location of the supposed haunting of two brothers and a ghost dog. The story goes that one brother and the dog were closed off in a small room and starved to death, while the other perished from pneumonia. Apparitions and moving objects have been reported here, so bring your digital recorder and try to do some EVP work here.

2. Get a reservation at the Simmons Homestead Inn in Hyannis Port. This beautiful bed and breakfast is located at 288 Scudder Ave and was built in the 1800s by Lemuel Simmons, a well-known sea captain. The presence of an unusual number of cats might herald in the spirit of the child ghost known as "Susan" who can be seen occasionally in the Owl Room. It is said she appears mostly to people who are intuitive or psychic, but take your recorder and try to catch an EVP.

3. Head out to Yarmouth Port and the Yarmouth Port Inn, the oldest inn in the Cape. This 1600s inn is found at 223 Route 6 in Yarmouthport and is host to a number of ghosts. Part of the underground railroad, the spirits of freed slaves are said to visit as are the apparitions of a few men in period clothing. Check into the room titled "Quisset Harbor" as it has been reported to have been a favorite "haunt" before. This place is so haunted that even the web site designer experienced a paranormal event while working for the Inn.

4. Skip the self tour and sign up for a guided ghost hunt with the Barnstable Village Ghost Hunting Group. June 1 through October, this group will take you on a scary and educational tour of the haunted locations and spooky places in Barnstable including a haunted jail, Old Kings Highway and end your evening with a visit to a location known as the "House of Eleven Ghosts." Call (508) 771-2725 to book your tour or follow link provided at the end of this article.

5. Before leaving the area be sure to check out the Marsh People along the many marsh areas of the Cape. Visitors claim to have seen strange "human-like" creatures living in the marsh and theories abound about their origin. Are they the descendants of those who may have been cut off from society hundreds of years ago, or some new strange race we have yet to discover? Whatever or whoever they are, the marshes of the Cape will surely give you a chill.
