Paint colors will help to evoke the feel of a beach vacation.
Recreating the feel of the beach is one way to decorate rooms in your home. A beach theme can be used in the living room, bedroom, bath or family room. A beach d cor can be created inexpensively, with paints that recall sand and sky, water and seashells. Adding beach-themed accessories to your room will make it a place to relax and refresh your spirit after a busy day.
Instructions
1. Choose the best color to use to create a beach effect. Stand back and assess the room to find features that can be used to achieve the final effect. If you have a large window available for natural light, you can use tan, soft blue or turquoise. If your lighting is limited, choose a lighter tan, a pale green or even a soft yellow to evoke the brightness of sunshine. Coral and shell pink are other good colors for a beach theme.
2. Measure the length and width of the room to get the square footage to determine how much paint or primer you will need. Read the manufacturer's instructions to determine how many cans you will need.
3. Apply primer to cover the old paint. Your current color will determine whether you need a primer coat. Dark or very rich colors may need a coat of primer paint to assure that the lighter color will cover properly and there is no underlying tones show through. There are also paint-with-primer products to make the job easier, but these can be expensive. Consider which method is the most cost effective for your needs.
4. Apply a light-colored paint for the trim. Trim that is painted a white or a pale, sandy beige produces a relaxed beach cottage look. Doors should match the trim paint.
