Alter the appearance of a rock facade on your house by refinishing it with paint. Before you get started, condition the facade to accept its new finish, or flaking will result. Rock facades are not suited for adhesion. Combat this problem by pre-treating the facade with a primer base coat. If the facade is located outside the home, choose a particular type of primer and paint, engineered with the ability to resist harsh weather elements. Employ the proper application process, or the finish may dry with subtle cracks.
Instructions
1. Wash the exterior rock facade using a pressure washer. Wait two to four hours for the facade to dry.
2. Protect areas adjacent to the rock facade with painter's tape. Cover the ground with fabric drop cloths.
3. Coat the clean exterior rock facade with acrylic latex primer using a roller. Roll vertically, moving toward your right. Apply primer to the areas between each rock, using a nylon paintbrush. Allow two hours of dry time.
4. Wash each of your painting instruments with tap water.
5. Use a razor blade to trim the tip from a tube of caulk. Insert the tube into a caulking gun. Seal cracks in the facade using the caulking gun. Allow 24 hours of dry time.
6. Paint the rock facade just as you primed it. Allow two hours of dry time. Add a second coat if the primer bleeds through.
