Creative Fresh paint Suggestions For A Boy'S Room

Give your boy a creative paint job in his room that reflects his personality and style. Don't stop at just a color when you can build a whole look or theme around the wall paint. The right paint job can give a child's room a lot of character, making it a retreat in which he'll enjoy spending time.

Graffiti Wall

Give your son a graffiti wall so he can mark it up to his heart's content and never has to worry about getting in trouble for writing on the walls. If you paint one wall entirely with chalkboard paint, he can make his own room murals and change them out as often as he wants. A giant chalkboard that is handy at all times can be a convenience, too, providing him with a place to write notes and reminders. He'll never have to worry about losing them again. Leave him messages or notes of encouragement on the board to brighten his day. Don't worry that the color is too dark for the room as chalkboard paint is now available in a variety of colors.

Splatter Paint

Splatter paint jobs have a whimsical, casual appearance, but they can also camouflage fingerprints or dirt marks. After you paint the walls a solid color of your choice, cover everything else carefully with drop cloths, painter's tape and newspaper. Splash paints in different colors onto the wall by dipping a brush in a new color and flicking it at the wall. Mix one part water to one part paint so the consistency splashes flat. You don't want it to leave thick blobs, but you don't want it runny, either.

Faux Treatment

A faux brick, stone or wood treatment on your son's wall will give it the illusion of texture and depth. With practice on scrap boards, you can master the techniques. Paint your boy a castle-themed room with walls of gray interlocking stone, an industrial look with exposed red bricks or a country cabin in the woods motif with faux wood walls. The beauty of faux paint jobs is that they look so real, but when you're ready to rid your room of the look, simply cover it up with a new coat of paint.

Break-out Borders

Painted borders are a good way to add color and style to a room without totally overpowering it. Borders usually go completely around the room, but they don't have to stop there. Paint a custom border and have it "jump" off the walls and onto other elements of the room. Make a train border around the room, and paint it across the window shade and armoire. If your son is into cute creepy crawlies like ants or inchworms, give him a trail of them going off the wall and across the furniture, or use fabric paint to send them marching across the bedspread.
