Transform your laundry room into a bright space with paint.
Your laundry room need not be a dreary place for simply washing, drying and ironing clothing. Brighten your workspace with colorful paint and accessories, and it could become one of your favorite rooms in the house-if only to admire the decor.
Stripes
Hang gift bags to hold laundry supplies.
Paint stripes on walls in alternating bright, complementary colors. Paint a thick black line to separate stripes. Once the paint has dried, add miniature shopping or gift bags. Embellish bags with feathers, tinsel and silk flowers. Use the bags to hold fabric softener, clothespins and stray socks.
Circles and Signs
Cut circles in various sizes from poster board. Trace the circles onto laundry room walls. Paint the circles in myriad colors. In white paint, using the corner of a thin angled brush, turn the circles into signs. Paint words associated with a washroom, such as "laundry", "soap," and "suds."
Chalkboard Mural
Create a modern mural with chalkboard paint and cork board. Install a chair rail dividing walls in half. Below the chair rail, paint the walls with two to three coats of chalkboard paint. The chalkboard you create is ideal for keeping small hands busy while you sort and load laundry. Above the chair rail, add 12-inch by 12-inch squares of cork board. Paint the cork in complementary colors of latex paint and use the pieces to post memos, invitations and children's art.
