Paint spills on vinyl siding should be cleaned as soon as possible. The sun's rays bake any paint left on the vinyl into the siding, making it difficult to remove. Vinyl siding has a painted surface, so removing additional paint can be tricky without stripping the original paint from the siding. Use paint thinner sparingly to avoid damaging the original paint.
Instructions
1. Scrape the paint gently with a putty knife. This removes any loose particles of paint from the vinyl siding.
2. Apply a nickel-sized amount of paint thinner to a clean rag. Apply the paint thinner to the paint, wiping gently.
3. Wipe the paint thinner onto the paint and then wipe quickly with another clean cloth to remove loosened paint. Avoid leaving the paint thinner on the vinyl siding for any length of time as the longer it lingers on the siding, the more it absorbs into the surface, destroying the original paint on the vinyl siding. Avoid wiping the paint thinner on any area but the paint you are trying to remove.
4. Apply dry-cleaning solution to the vinyl siding if the paint thinner fails to remove all the paint. Rub the cleaning solution onto the paint and wipe off with a different clean cloth.
5. Wash the area with a bucket of water and dish detergent to remove all traces of paint thinner and dry-cleaning solution. Rinse thoroughly with a garden hose.
